October 2010 - President's Message

Here at Association Headquarters, we have been busy planning for the future of the MOA. On behalf of the executive board, I want to let you know that we are committed to a formal planning process that will provide a road map for the MOA over the next several years. This will include, for example, specific plans for our membership, legislative and continuing education initiatives.

To date, we have had two meetings of our "Strategic Planning Steering Committee," comprised of the MOA Board, past presidents and other active MOA members. In addition, many of you participated in the recent "environmental scan" in the form of a survey we conducted a few weeks ago. The purpose of this survey is for the Steering Committee to better understand both the internal and external forces that will likely impact the MOA over the next few years.

At this point, we want to welcome and encourage participation in this process to our general membership. We will be conducting a formal focus group at our annual meeting next month and will be giving members the opportunity to provide input to the goals that we will be discussing. After that, we will begin talking about "action plans" to achieve these new milestones.

We would love to have you help us pave the road for the MOA's future with this exciting project. If you are interested in participating in the Strategic Planning focus group, please send us a short email at moa@assnhqtrs.com.

I look forward to reporting to you all at our annual conference on November 6 and 7 in Bethesda.

Sincerely,
Rob Stutman, O.D., MBA
