August 2010 - President's Message

I hope this mid-summer newsletter finds everyone enjoying the hot days of the season while keeping an eye on this coming fall events.

By now, I hope that everyone has marked the calendars for the fast-approaching MOA annual convention on November 6-7, 2010. We are all very excited to bring our convention to the capitol beltway for the first time, hosting the event at the Bethesda North Marriott Conference Center. The meeting will feature 12 hours of world-class COPE-approved continuing education and give members an opportunity to network with colleagues and meet with MOA corporate partners who share the mission of the association and Maryland optometrists.

In addition, this fall will also bring the very important statewide mid-term elections and it is critical that every optometrist get involved on the local level for the sake of the profession. I urge every member to make sure that you are registered to vote and get acquainted with your local candidates. As a legislated profession, it is imperative that our voice is heard this November as we go to the polls.

Also, please take a moment to make sure that the MOA has your updated contact information. In order to match our members with the key state and federal legislators, we need to know the districts in which you vote. Go to the MOA website, www.MarylandEyes.org, and click the link labeled “Maryland Optometrist Census” at the top right of the web page.

As always, thank you for your continued support and enjoy the rest of your summer.
